OBSERVATION OF “WORLD HABITAT DAY”

As celebrated by different authorities and Institutes all over the world, The Institution of Engineers (India) Manipur State Centre has also observed the “World Habitat Day” on 7th October 2019 at the Seminar Hall, IEI Manipur State Centre, Takyel, Imphal. A number of Past Chairman, Past Honorary Secretary, Senior Corporate Members, Corporate Members and participants from different disciplines attended the function which was presided over by Er. N. Shyamsundar Singh, FIE, the Chairman of the State Centre. Ar. N. Gitkumar Singh, Former Director (MAHUD) and Chief Town Planner, Govt. of Manipur graced the observation as Theme Speaker. Er. N. Monika Chanu, AMIE welcomed the gathering.
In his speech on the theme “Frontier technologies as an innovative tool to transform waste to wealth”, Ar. N. Gitkumar Singh explained elaborately on the Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) undertaken by the Govt. of Manipur with a view to making the Imphal City clean and healthy. The initiatives of the State Government include collection and transportation of solid waste from different parts of the City and subjected it to composting, pyrolysis, briquetting and power generation through suitable technological applications. He was confident that the process would enable the State authorities to transform the waste to wealth. Other dignitaries on the dais also spoke and shared their well thought views on the theme.
Er. N. Shyamsundar Singh, FIE, the Chairman of the State Centre stressed the need for the Engineers to actively involve in the process of transformation of waste to wealth wherever necessary in order to keep our small habitat clean and healthy for all living beings.
