3 DAY WORKSHOP FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKERS ON EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION

The Institution of Engineers (India), Manipur State Centre organised a 3 Day Workshop For Construction Workers On Earthquake Resistant Concrete Construction from 19th February 2021 to 21st February 2021 at the Seminar Hall of the IEI Manipur State Centre. The workshop was sponsored by M/S SANA SANGAI, Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak, Imphal East. Inaugural Function was graced by Er. Kh. Temba Singh, FIE, Past Chairman, Chief Engineer PWD Manipur, Er. N. Shyamsundar Singh, FIE, Former Chairman JERC (Mizoram & Manipur) and Er. Th. Joykumar Singh, FIE, Chairman, IEI (MSC), Chief Engineer (Retd.) PWD Manipur and Team Leader, Roddick Consultants Private Ltd. as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively. Altogether, 42 participants comprising of Junior Engineers, Students, Construction Workers and Private Practitioners took part in the Workshop.
Welcome and Keynote Address was presented by Er. H. Linthoinganbi Chanu, AMIE, Convenor of the Workshop. She deliberated on the need of quality construction as a vital importance to make a ductile building in earthquake prone areas vis-a-vis poor construction practices due to lack of proper knowledge amidst construction boom in the State. She mentioned briefly the various topics to be discussed during the Workshop.
Er. Kh. Temba Singh, FIE, Chief Guest of the function emphasized importance of organising such type of Workshop and need of interaction among the engineers, supervisors and construction workers for proper understanding of construction methodologies and practices in high seismic zone. He also deliberated that such type of Workshop will be benefitted to mitigate earthquake disaster that may occur in buildings. He reminded about similar workshops organised by this Centre in the past.
