

ONE DAY SEMINAR ON “POWER SCENARIO IN MANIPUR - PAST , PRESENT & FUTURE”

The Institution of Engineers (India), Manipur State Centre organised one (1) day State level Seminar on the theme “Power Scenario in Manipur- Past, Present and Future” under the aegis of the Electrical Engineering Division Board (ELDB), IEI on 30th December 2018 at the Auditorium of Government Polytechnic Imphal. Shri. R.K. Dinesh Singh, IAS, Commissioner (Works & Power), Govt. of Manipur graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Er. A. Roudrajit Moirang, MIE, Convenor and Hony. Secy. of the State Centre welcomed the august gathering that comprises of many a number of eminent retired Personnel and Senior Corporate members of the Centre and delivered the welcome address.
In his keynote address, Er. Ch. Dharanikumar Singh, MIE, Organising Secy. of the Seminar outlined the basic component systems namely, Generation, Transmission and Distribution that primarily form the power scenario of the state. The organising Secy. narrated that the particular theme has been chosen by the Centre with the aim of creating a synergistic power system out of the proportionate combination of the above component systems that can produce the socio-economic satisfaction of the stake holders under different climatic conditions. To achieve such a scenario that is considered to be technically reliable, economically sound and consumer friendly, the state utilities in charge of each component system shall need to complete their part of the job within shortest possible time- he added.
The Guest of Honour, Er. Th. Joykumar Singh, FIE, Retired Chief Engineer, State PWD and Senior Corporate member praised the endeavour of the organising committee to add new dimensions to the activities of the Centre. Such a programme would definitely throw more light on the policy and programme being adopted by the concerned state authorities for the development of the power sectors in the state, he added.
While informing the gathering that the Seminar, the first of its kind on any open platform in the state, shall provide the rare opportunity for the stakeholders and the interested fraternities to interact and gain more knowledge of the subject, Er. Kh. Temba Singh, FIE, Chief Engineer, State PWD and Immediate Past Chairman of the state Centre, who also graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, emphasized the need for organising more workshops/Seminars on the same platform on various topics which are of concern to everyone.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Shri. R.K. Dinesh Singh, IAS, Commissioner (Works & Power), Govt. of Manipur, explained the rich resources with which the state is bestowed by nature and mentioned that the economic conditions of the state which is otherwise far below the satisfactory line, can be improved substantially only when these resources are properly explored and developed to the advantages of the state. Therefore, Shri. Singh drew the undivided attention of all concerned to the economic driving potential and also stressed on detailed studies and further development of the resources in the mutual interest of all without losing much time.
In his presidential address, Er. N. Shyamsundar Singh, FIE, Chairman, IEI Manipur State Centre briefly highlighted the changes that have taken place over the last 50 years or so in the energy use pattern, the pace of technological intervention in all sectors, the corresponding demand growth, the climatic conditions, the fast exhaustion of fossil fuels, the need for reduction of carbon emission, the corresponding impact on energy generation and also emphasized upon the dire necessity for development of Renewable Energy resources wherever these are available. While endorsing the views of the Chief Guest, the Chairman also felt that timely exploration and early development of the natural resources would definitely bring out a favourable change in the overall economy of the state.
