WORLD ENGINEERING DAY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

As done in the Institution of Engineers (India) in other Centres across the World, the IEI, Manipur State Centre also celebrated 2nd World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development on 4th March 2021 at its Seminar Hall, Govt. Polytechnic Campus, Takyel, Imphal West with Er. Th. Joykumar Singh, FIE, Chairman, IEI MSC presiding over the function. The President welcomed the audience that included among others, Corporate Members, Working Engineers, Students and Technicians and also drew their attention of all present in the theme.

The theme speaker, Er. N. Shyamsundar Singh FIE began his deliberation with a brief analysis on how UNESCO is interested in and depending upon the valuable services of engineers for the socio-economic development of human kind. Therefore, it is a matter of pride for engineers who always move a couple of steps ahead of others that their relentless efforts and services for enhancement of performance and improvement of global societies have been recognised universally – he asserted.

He narrated briefly the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and subsequent actions initiated on it. He also placed before the gathering the additional responsibilities given to the engineers by other professionals and public at large, to address most pressing issues like climate change, critical environmental issues and growing polluted cities etc. and their impacts from which the Planet Earth – our lone habitat, is ailing. Before conclusion, he called upon the young engineers to work harder to gain more knowledge of different subjects too so that they can be suitable partners who can change the world for better.
